A bottle of single malt whiskey from the Macallan distillery will be auctioned in November and has an estimated price of up to £1.2 million, the equivalent of R$7.3 million, according to auction house Sotheby’s.

According to experts, Macallan was considered the most soughtafter Scottish whiskey in 1926. This was confirmed when a similar bottle sold for a record £1.5 million in 2019.

This sale will be the first of a bottle from this cask since then.

The famous cask was distilled in 1926 and aged in sherry casks for six decades before being bottled in 1986.

Only 40 bottles were produced and were not available for purchase instead some were offered to The Macallan’s key customers.

The amounts fetched at auction for these bottles over the years have been extraordinary.

The 1926 Macallan Adami will be sold at Sotheby’s in London on November 18 with an estimated value of £750,000 (R$4.6 million) to £1.2 million (R$7.3 million).

Jonny Fowle, global head of exotic drinks at Sotheby’s, said: “Macallan 1926 is the whiskey every auctioneer wants to sell and every collector wants to own.”

“I’m thrilled to be taking a bottle to a Sotheby’s auction for the first time since we set the record for this series four years ago,” he said.

According to Sotheby’s, the 40 bottles from the 1926 barrel were labeled differently. A maximum of 14 copies bore the iconic Fine and Rare labels, including the record bottle sold in 2019.

Two bottles were released without labels. One of these was handpainted by Irish artist Michael Dillon. When sold in 2018, it became the first bottle of whiskey to exceed the value of 1 million pounds (approximately R$ 6 million).

Of the remaining bottles, 12 were labeled by pop artist Peter Blake and another 12 were designed by Italian painter Valerio Adami.

Although 12 bottles of Macallan Adami were produced in 1926, it is unknown how many still exist.

One of them is said to have been destroyed in an earthquake in Japan in 2011, and at least one is said to have been opened and eaten.
