How Queensland taxpayers are footing the bill for The Bachelors’ new season of flops – but the Gold Coast Council refuses to disclose how much they’ve spent

Gold Coast City Council has refused to reveal how much they spent filming the new season of The Bachelors in the city.

According to the Courier Mail, the Council has struck a deal to film the show’s tenth season in the city as part of its Screen Attraction Program.

The series was filmed in a $14.5 million waterfront mansion on the Gold Coast after production relocated from Sydney.

A spokeswoman for the council told the publication the deal was made to showcase the city and bring “economic benefits.”

New bachelor villa on the Gold Coast boasts incredible ocean views with floor to ceiling glass windows.

The property is a change from the $6.3 million “French Castle” in Dural in western Sydney that was used for Jimmy Nicholson’s season.

Prior to Dural, The Bachelor and The Bachelorette were filmed on a $2.3 million lot in Oxford Falls, north Sydney.

It comes after the new season of the dating show failed to impress at its Monday night premiere.

The season ten premiere had an audience of 309,000 viewers on the Metro in five cities, with 405,000 viewers nationally.

Channel 10 streaming partner Paramount+ claimed national ratings were even higher, with 439,000 tweeters tuning in nationwide.

“The number one entertainment show for under 50s, 25-54s and 16-39s. Number one in his under 50, 25 to 54 and 16 to 39 timeslot,” it tweeted.

“37% commercial share in 16-39 year olds, 30.2% in 18-49 year olds, 29.3% in under 50 year olds and 27% in 25-54 year olds.”

The Bachelors was also a hit on social media, with #thebachelorsau becoming the trending hashtag in Australia.

In a franchise first, season ten sees three suitors – Felix von Hofe, Jed McIntosh and Thomas Malucelli – looking for love.
