Heung Min Sonattacker from Tottenhamturned a year younger this week after South Korea changed its traditional method of counting the age of its citizens.

The law was passed in December by newly elected Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, who had earlier advocated scrapping the country’s outdated agecounting method to bring it in line with the rest of the world.

The change went into effect last Wednesday, making virtually every member of the Korean population a year or two younger at the same time.

The traditional Korean system of centuries ago counted people’s gestation periods by their age and assumed that they were almost a year old at the time of birth.

Every person turns one year old on January 1st every year, including babies born in December who lived to be two years old, although they might have been born just a week or two earlier.

The common international age counting system has also existed in South Korea since the 1960s, but it was only used for official purposes such as medical care or legal documentation.

As of this week, the country has done away with its traditional method and will only adhere to the international system to reduce the level of disputes and confusion that arose earlier due to the discrepancy between the two systems.

As a reminder, son was born on July 8, 1992 and is 30 years old according to the international system.

Of course, despite the constitutional changes made in Korea, Spurs are not required to change any forward registration information as the club is only required to provide it premier league a verified date of birth, not an age.
