How to find the cheapest gas near you

Russia’s war with Ukraine has sent oil prices skyrocketing over supply concerns, and its impact is falling on consumers at gas stations.

Gasoline prices have just reached their highest levels since 2008, bringing the national average to $4.065 for a typical gallon of gasoline, according to the AAA. In some areas, prices are much higher. In California, for example, as of Monday morning, the average was $5,343.

You can save money by using apps like GasBuddy to find the lowest fare stations near you. And it lets you sort by fuel type, payment method, gas station brand, and more. Here’s what to do.

Beginning

  • Download the GasBuddy app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
  • Open GasBuddy and click Sign Up.
  • Enter your email address and zip code
  • You’ll need to share your location, a feature that can be turned off in your phone’s settings later.

Choice of gas

  • Tap the Find Gas tab at the bottom of the screen.
  • You will be able to choose which type of fuel you prefer. GasBuddy allows you to filter regular, medium, premium, diesel, UNL88 and E85. I chose “normal” for the demo screenshot above.
  • The application shows a list of stations and their prices from low to high. It also tells you the price range. For example, in one area of ​​Los Angeles, it ranges from $4.99 to $5.99.
  • You can filter by payment method, rating, brands, and amenities like restrooms or stations that are open 24/7.
  • Once you stop at a station, you can click on the one you want. This will show you its full address, directions, ratings, reviews, and amenities.
  • The app will also ask you to provide gas prices at the station so you can help others get accurate information.
