Howard Stern is no longer friends with Bill Maher over comments about his wife Beth Stern – New York Post

Howard Stern said he ended his friendship with Bill Maher after the HBO “Real Time” host made a comment about the radio shock jock’s habit of gushing about his wife on the show.

“[Howard Stern] continues to talk about how much he loves his wife Beth, which he’s been doing on air for about 10 years,” Maher said on Monday’s episode of his Club Random podcast, in which he interviewed Julian Lennon.

“But we know that Howard had this other woman before Beth,” Maher said, referring to Alison Berns.

The two divorced in 2001.

Maher, 67, has never been married.

“So he’s trying to portray me as something immoral because I haven’t settled down yet,” said Maher, whose comments were reported by news site Mediaite.

“Could we just not gush about the person while the other person can still hear it?”

Maher prefaced his remarks by telling Lennon: “I don’t want to start a fight with him. We’ve finally repaired our relationship… and we get along great.”

Not anymore, according to the 69-year-old SiriusXM shock jock, who called his former friend “sexist.”

“What a sexist statement!” Stern said on Tuesday.

“What a convoluted, crazy thing to say,” Stern continued.

“It is assumed that he knows something about my first marriage.”

“Of course the man has to leave the woman and the woman has to be devastated and sit around pining for her famous husband,” Stern said.

“He should keep his mouth shut!” added the radio host.

“I mean, I don’t think I go on the air every day and say, ‘I love my wife,'” Stern said.

“But I thought it was a pretty positive message – especially to my audience – to say to guys, instead of insulting our women, how about we talk about how we appreciate and love them.” But obviously he’s making a big deal out of it Worried about my relationship,” Stern added.

The Post has reached out to Maher for comment.

During the post, the two men said they were happy to have rekindled a friendship after a long period of arguments.

During the episode, Stern told Maher, “The only big difference between us is that I have a committed, loving relationship with a woman.”

Maher replied with a laugh: “So what? Enjoy it.”

“I don’t understand,” Stern replied, adding, “I know you’re a straight man.”

“What is it?” Stern asked. “Do you ever have a serious girlfriend?” Because we don’t see you anywhere.”

Maher joked in response: “First of all, this is my interview with you. Sit back.”

When Maher, who said he “loves being alone,” suggested that married people “don’t live,” Stern replied, “I’m so happily married.”

“People approach this issue very personally,” Maher said. “You’re no better and I’m no worse,” the HBO host said due to their relationship status.

“I never understood how you can be with the same person day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year. I just don’t understand it,” Maher told Stern.
