Howard Stern says Bill Maher should “shut up” after making “sexist” and “crazy” comments about his marriage

How does that feel for the first wife?  “Could we just not gush over the person while the other person can still hear it?” the Real Time with Bill Maher host asked.</p><p>Stern and Berns tied the knot in 1978, but separated in 2000 and finalized their divorce in 2001. He and Beth, an animal rights activist, began dating shortly after meeting at a dinner party in 2000 and tied the knot in 2008 for life. The media personality didn’t take kindly to Maher’s unwarranted comments about his relationships, claiming on Tuesday’s episode of The Howard Stern Show that he should “keep his mouth shut.”

“What a sexist statement! What a convoluted, crazy statement,” Stern said, firing back. “It assumes he knows something about my first marriage. That of course the man leaves the woman and the woman must be devastated and sit around pining for her famous husband.”

I don’t think I go on air every day and say, ‘I love my wife.’  But I thought it was a pretty positive message to say to guys – especially to my audience – “How about we talk about appreciating and loving them instead of making fun of our wives?”</p><p>Stern argued that Maher seemed “very concerned about my relationship” and revealed that he reached out to him via email and asked him to be honest about his opinions about his life.</p><p>“I wrote in an email, ‘Why don’t you call me?’  Why don’t you tell me what you think about my life and my marriage, because it’s you, you know? But I do not care. Stern remarried Beth in a surprise wedding on The Ellen DeGeneres Show back in October 2019, a week after he told her during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! proposed marriage again.

While Bachelor alum Colton Underwood officiated the ceremony, Stern shared his vow: “If I marry you, I promise that I will watch The Bachelor and Bachelor in Paradise with you in bed every night for the rest of my life.”
