Huawei launches its Watch Ultimate in France to face the Apple Watch Ultra – Frandroid

Huawei presented its new Huawei Watch Ultimate, a connected watch that acts as a dive computer and will arrive in France in April.

The announcement was expected. On the occasion of the launch of its new Huawei P60 range in China, the Chinese manufacturer has also lifted the veil on some accessories. This is particularly true of its new open-back headphones, the Huawei FreeBuds 5, but also its new high-end connected watch, the Huawei Watch Ultimate.

Like the Apple Watch Ultra, the Huawei Watch Ultimate is also aimed at the very high-end segment. And like its American competitor, it relies primarily on advanced extreme sports functions. The Huawei Watch Ultra not only includes the classic functions you would expect from a connected watch, but also dive computer functions.

Features specific to diving

As well as the two buttons on the right, classic for a Huawei watch, it also benefits from a button on the left that acts as a shortcut for dive mode. In detail, this mode allows you to enjoy three types of dives: free diving, technical diving or recreational diving.

In particular, the watch will be able to estimate the user’s depth, allow a dive time to be set, warn the user of the duration or depth, display reminders and take into account the different decompression stops required depending on the time spent underwater are and the depth.

To enable these diving features, Huawei claims to have used a zirconium case, which it claims is more resistant than titanium, particularly to corrosion. The watch is also 10 ATM certified for a theoretical dive of up to 100 meters.

Around the 1.5-inch LTPO circular Amoled screen, Huawei has also incorporated a fixed ceramic bezel that differs by version – with compass information for the black model and deco time markers for the blue version.

Advanced sports functions

The Huawei Watch Ultimate also benefits from more classic features for a connected watch. In particular, we find position tracking through different GNSS constellations (GPS, Galileo, BeiDou, Glonass, QZSS) with dual-frequency compatibility, heart rate and blood oxygen tracking, a reverse navigation function for returning to your starting point on a trail or hike – but without mapping – and even an orange activity data display to stay discreet in the middle of the night.

In addition, like previous Huawei watches, the Watch Ultimate allows training data to be exported to Strava, Komoot or Runtastic, as well as the creation of training programs or the customization of training views, as with classic sports watches.

The Huawei Watch Ultimate has a battery that, according to the company, allows an autonomy of up to 14 days with normal use and 8 days with more intensive use. It also includes an electrocardiogram function – available from launch in France – as well as a microphone and speaker to answer a call directly from the watch. Note, however, that the number of Huawei watch applications available for download is limited to say the least and that replies to received messages can only be made with pre-recorded messages from the watch.

The Huawei Watch Ultimate is already available in China. It will be available in France from April 3 in two versions, both with a 46mm case. The black version comes with a flexible HNBR strap, priced at €749.99, while the blue model comes with a metal bracelet, priced at €899.99.
