A search is currently underway in the English Channel involving a huge cruise ship, a helicopter, the coast guard and rescue boats. According to Sky News, the cruise ship of German origin, named Aidaperla, was en route from Hamburg to Rotterdam when the crew member fell into the water.

In a statement, the company said the captain “immediately initiated all rescue measures in coordination with local authorities.” A thorough search of the ship confirmed he was not on board, the statement said.

A cruise monitoring company shows the ship moving in a search pattern, circling the English Channel. According to its website, AIDAperla is one of 13 ships from the cruise line AIDA, which serves the German market and is part of the Carnival Corporation group. Weighing 124 tons and having a capacity for 3,400 passengers and a crew of 900, it is one of the largest ships in the fleet.

The ship was scheduled to arrive in La Coruña, Spain, on October 23, but it is not known whether the date will be kept due to the search, Insider reports.
