They were one of the most stable couples in Hollywood, and we say “were” because Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee announced this Friday that they were separating after nearly three decades of marriage. This summer, dominated by high-profile breakups of famous couples – and little news about new romances between celebrities, aside from that of Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet – the announcement of the actor and his wife’s split was one of the least expected.
“We were fortunate to spend nearly three decades as husband and wife in a wonderful and loving marriage. “Our journey is now changing and we have decided to separate to further our individual growth,” they report in a statement sent on September 15 to People magazine, the same publication to which singer Ricky Martin and the painter sent their divorce notice. Jwan Yosef and that also confirmed the end of the two-year relationship between Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro.

“Our family was and remains our top priority. We embrace this next chapter with gratitude, love and kindness. “We thank you very much for your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family goes through this transition throughout our lives,” they continue in a statement they sign as “Deb and Hugh Jackman,” concluding: “This is the only statement there is from us that will do it.”
The actor has not yet shared this announcement on his social networks and on his Instagram account – where he has 31.4 million followers – the last published photo in which he appears with his wife is from May 2nd. In this very picture, both of them were seen wearing their looks that they had chosen for the last Met Gala the day before in New York. This will go down in history as their last red carpet appearance as husband and wife. Although there has been no sign of their marriage on their social networks since then, the actor and the film producer were photographed in the final of the Wimbledon tournament last July.

Last April, the interpreter of films such as “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” or “The Greatest Showman” posted a message on the same social network to celebrate his 27th wedding anniversary. “I love you, Deb. Today is our 27th wedding anniversary. 27 YEARS!! I love you very much. Together we have created a beautiful family. And a life. Hugh Jackman (54 years old, Sydney) and Deborra-Lee Furness (67 years old, Annandale) have been married for 27 years and are parents to two children, Oscar, 23 years old – whom the couple adopted in July 2000 – and Ava, 18 – who they adopted five years later to expand their family. Both met in 1995 while filming an Australian television series. He had a partner at the time, but they were immediately in love: just four months later he asked her to marry him, and less than a year later, on April 11, 1996, they married in Melbourne. By then she was already an actress with a solid career, and he was an actor whose career was just taking off. “From the moment we met, I knew that it was our destiny to be together,” said the interpreter in a message in April 2021 with which he celebrated his silver anniversary. All these years they have remained a discreet couple, and now it remains to be seen whether their divorce process will be the same or whether it will turn into a legal battle with public accusations, like the one that was put forward all summer by actor Kevin Costner and his ex-wife Christine.
