Considered Broadway’s most prestigious award, the Tony Awards are American theater’s version of the Oscars.
In 2004, Hugh took home the same award – Best Actress – for the role of Peter Allen in The Boy from Oz.
First performed in 1957, The Music Man was nominated for six other Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical and Best Lead Actress for Hugh’s co-star Sutton Foster.
Billy Crystal was also recognized for his acclaimed role in “Mr. Saturday Night” in the Hugh category.
Other nominees in this category include Myles Frost in “MJ”, Jaquel Spivey in “A Strange Loop” and Rob McClure in “Mrs Doubtfire”.
In the famous toe-tapping musical, which was filmed in 1962, Hugh plays the cheerful but ruthless con man Harold Hill.
Hill manages to convince the small town of River City to buy musical instruments they can’t play. In return, the charmer promises to keep River City “sin” free.
