The actor, best known for his role as Wolverine, recently told Le Parisien about the tumors on his face that he has had to have removed several times over the past 5 years.
Wearing a thick bandage over his nose during this promotional interview for his latest film The Son, the topic could hardly have been avoided.
He explains that he has the “fortunately least dangerous” type of cancer but is not immune to a recurrence. “My doctor assured me it will come back,” he says.
From 2013 to 2017, the actor underwent six surgeries to remove his cancerous tumors. Since then, every suspicious spot has been checked and biopsied.
In the course of his health misadventures, he found it important to speak openly about it on social networks to sensitize people to the dangers of long exposure to the sun and the importance of regular medical checks and controls. His video and photo publications often show him with a bandage on his nose. Little did we know, however, that he had to undergo so many surgeries and recurrences.
The actor can thank his wife Deborra-Lee Furness, who advised him to see a doctor when they noticed his first pimple on his face in 2013.
The England-born, Australia-raised star has to avoid sun exposure, a move he regrets he didn’t think of sooner. “Back then, we didn’t have as much of a reflex to protect ourselves,” he says. Except that the consequences of long exposure to the sun only become apparent 25 years later. »
