Agriculture Minister Esteban Valenzuela and Director of the National Civil Protection and Response Service Álvaro Hormazabal agreed that there is no person affected by the H5N1 variant of the virus.
Hormazabal said the situation is being monitored after one case in Ecuador, two in the United States and one in China.
Referring to the outbreaks at two poultry industry farms in the O’Higgins and Bío Bío regions, the head of agriculture assured that they have been virtually eradicated and no new infections have emerged.
All workers at those facilities have been tested for the virus and tested negative.
In this sense, Valenzuela added, talks are underway with the United States, Mexico, the European Union and China to resume exports of white meat and eggs as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, at the Carlos Anwandter Nature Reserve in the southern city of Valdivia, they warned that between 10 and 15 percent of the black-necked swan population could die due to the outbreak recorded at those facilities.
Influenza, or bird flu, has no cure and is highly contagious, so it’s important to isolate healthy species and sacrifice those that have contracted the virus to break the chain of transmission.
Except for the regions of Aysén and Magallanes, the disease is already present in the rest of Chile.
