Human remains discovered near where actor Julian Sands disappeared 34 Los Angeles

SAN BERNARDINO, CA.- On Saturday, hikers made a gruesome discovery when they found human remains in a mountainous area in southern California where actor Julian Sands went missing five months ago, authorities said.

The body was discovered around 10 a.m. near Mount Baldy and was taken to the coroner’s office for identification, which will take place next week, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.

“Around 10:00 am on Saturday, June 24, 2023, civilian hikers contacted the Fontana Sheriff’s Station after discovering human remains in the desert on Mt. Baldy,” said Detective B. Meelker of the Fontana Sheriff’s Station.

“Fontan Station responders responded on-site in conjunction with the Sheriff’s Department Emergency Response Unit. The deceased was taken to the coroner’s office pending positive identification. Identification should be completed next week,” he added.

There are currently no further details about the find.

Julian Sands: Hiking lover

Julian Sands, a well-known 65-year-old British actor who enjoys hiking and mountaineering, was reported missing on January 13 after venturing to the 10,000-plus-foot (3,048-metre) peak east of The Angels.

During the winter, the region was hit by severe storms that may have made their journey difficult.

Actor Julian Sands’ family speaks

Sands’ family issued their first statement since the actor’s disappearance last Friday.

“We continue to carry Julian in our hearts and remember him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of nature and the arts, as well as an original artist and collaborator,” the statement said.

Sands is known for his breakthrough role in the 1985 film A Room With a View and his roles on the series Smallville and 24.

He is married to the journalist Evgenia Citkowitz, with whom he has three adult children.

The eighth organized search since Sands’ disappearance was conducted on June 17 but yielded no positive results, authorities confirmed.
