What are human shields?
According to the Israel Defense Forces, extremists would use civilians as “human shields,” meaning innocent people would be used to protect certain areas or other people from military operations.
To defend the evacuation order in the area where the hospitals are located, the Israel Defense Forces released photos, diagrams and audio recordings that would show how Hamas is using the hospital system and in particular the Al Shifa Hospital to create a barracks Commander general to hide under the building.
“Hamas has turned hospitals into command and control centers and hideouts for terrorists and commanders,” Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, Israel’s top military spokesman, said at a news conference.
The Israel Defense Forces also released alleged images of the interrogation of two members of Hamas’ armed wing. One of the sections states that the tunnels are mostly under hospitals. When asked why, the man replies: “So that you don’t bomb.” [os túneis]”.
Hamas operates inside the largest hospital in Gaza and hides underneath.
