(CNN) — Hundreds of migrants from 14 countries were arrested on Friday in Chiapas, Mexico, “in the back of a semi-trailer truck in crowded conditions,” according to a statement by the Mexican National Guard.
The 377 migrants were nationals of Bangladesh, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Nepal, Nicaragua, El Salvador, South Africa, Uzbekistan, Venezuela and Yemen.
According to the statement, the migrants were transferred to temporary accommodation with the help of the National Migration Institute. The driver was made available to the authorities for “corresponding investigations”.
