Hundreds of people gathered to form a communist party

More than 600 people gathered at the so-called Montreal Marxist Winter School. This is an annual event where participants advocate for a global revolution to combat capitalism.

This year, guests from around the world attended the event, which organizers said was one of the largest gatherings of communists in North America in decades.

The initiator of the Marxist school, Vincent Monaghan, believes that “capitalism is in crisis everywhere”.

“Inflation, austerity, poverty, wars: This is why communism is becoming increasingly popular among young people. And we had to do something with that,” says Mr Monaghan.

He adds that left-wing parties like Québec Solidaire (QS) are moderate and argues that a “radically” different party is needed. However, Mr Monaghan makes it clear that this communist movement is against dictatorship.

Who is this movement for? “Young people, workers and even older people who realize that the capitalist system no longer has anything to offer them.”
