I asked my colleague to pay me back for dinner and you won’t believe the texts I got

A woman living paycheck to paycheck was tricked into paying for a colleague’s meal – and she revealed the nasty text messages she received after demanding her money back.

Lara works a minimum wage job and rarely eats out, but she decided to treat herself and have a nice meal with a colleague one evening.

The other woman “forgot” her wallet and insisted that Lara pay for her, but promised to reimburse her for the starters, main courses, drinks and desserts she ordered.

But three weeks later, Lara’s colleague called her a “stalker” who “upset” her by constantly demanding repayment.

Lara struggles to make ends meet every week while her colleague is out at fancy restaurants or on weekend trips.

Lara shared her story along with the screenshots on Reddit.

“A few weeks ago I decided to have dinner with a colleague. I rarely, if ever, go out to eat because it’s so expensive, but I decided to treat myself one evening.

“My colleague ordered appetizers, several drinks, a large dinner and even dessert for herself.”

Dinner went well, but when it came time to pay for the food, everything came to a head.

“We were about to pay for our meal, but she conveniently forgot her wallet and just sat there staring at me.” I’m a clumsy person and didn’t want to pay her for the meal because it was more than I could afford.

“But it was such a strange situation and she promised to pay me back, so at the end of the evening I paid her bill, expecting to get a refund.”

Lara claimed her colleague was always going to fancy restaurants and weekend trips, but had an “excuse” when asked for repayment.

“I barely make a livable salary and being in the red because of her worries me so much that I feel like an idiot,” Lara said.

The messages show that the colleague claims she will transfer the money “next week” when she gets paid.

“Shit has been crazy lately and I have some other shit that’s a priority that I need to focus my money on,” the coworker said.

“I already told you I’ll pay you back, this is getting on my nerves. ‘I’ve had enough of talking to you.’

Thousands were outraged on Lara’s behalf and criticized her colleague for lying.

“When she borrowed the money in the first place, she had absolutely no intention of ever paying you back. “Her answers prove she’s an entitled brat,” one said.

“I bet she does this every time she goes out with someone. “That’s probably how she posts about these expensive restaurants,” another suggested.

“I know this type of person through and through. “They graciously make you pay and promise to pay you back in the hopes that you will either forget or be too anxious to pressure them,” one woman wrote.

While others condemned Lara for putting herself in the situation.

“Honestly, you sound like a weakling,” one said. “Her choice of words was not direct and suggested a lot of begging.”

“Don’t lend money you can’t afford to lose – it’s a life lesson,” wrote another.
