“I drank a few beers”: The fire chief in embarrassment

The chief of the Dearborn, Michigan, Fire Department was arrested last Wednesday for drunk driving. The scene was captured on a police officer’s body camera.

As soon as he was intercepted, Joseph Murray requested the assistance of a lawyer to help him with his possible legal problems.

In the excerpt from his arrest published by the Law & Crime Network, it can be seen that the firefighter was visibly drunk.

Dearborn police initially stopped him for driving 95 mph in a 65 mph zone.

“Of course I drank several beers. “Three or four, over several hours,” he informed the agent, making sure he had not consumed alcohol in the fifteen minutes before his arrest.

One of the officers appears unconvinced by Murray’s statement and accuses the man of being “drunk” after turning off the engine of his van.

“You’re done. You almost can’t speak. “You almost can’t stand it,” he says.

The offending driver was then subjected to a test where he was asked to move in a straight line.

“Go until I tell you to stop. Do you have any questions? You have to do what I tell you,” the agent informs Joseph Murray.

The latter passes the test miserably because he lost his footing as soon as the policeman signaled him to move forward.

Because the police refused to blow into the breathalyzer, they arrested the American, who was held for several hours.

His employer, the Dearborn Fire Department, has placed him on administrative leave pending further developments in the investigation.

He has been chief of this fire department in a suburb of Detroit since 2012.
