Mélanie Renaud is suffering from incurable cancer and has no intention of giving up. The singer is currently in the studio recording a new album, expected in fall 2024. “Singing keeps me alive,” admits the singer.
Mélanie Renaud has come a long way; She has been battling stage 4 ovarian cancer for seven years now. She is doing better, she assures us, even though the cancer is incurable. But despite knowing this incurable disease, she maintains impressive morale; In fact, the Journal spoke with a composed, even radiant woman to discuss this unexpected return.
She doesn’t hide it; she was “very afraid” that she wouldn’t be able to sing anymore. Because a recent – and sudden – loss of consciousness led to a two-week hospital stay last summer. And during this time, tests revealed brain metastases.

“I was very scared. Brain metastases often cause serious sequelae such as loss of mobility or speech. But the results of my neurological examination were normal; I was told that I was lucky to retain all my abilities and be able to function well” , admits Mélanie Renaud.
Sober for three years
And the company plans to continue doing that by launching its first new titles in six years in the coming months. These officially mark his return after years of silence devoted to treating his illness and his journey to sobriety.
Mélanie Renaud is proud that she has been abstaining from “any substance that alters behavior” for three years. His consumption problems contributed to his disappearance from public life many years ago, despite a promising start to his career, marked by the success of his song J’m’en want and a participation in the musical show Notre Dame de Paris.
“I had a big head. I was young, naive and didn’t do this job for the right reasons. Over time, failures allowed me to better understand who I was outside of Mélanie Renaud. I learned to know myself, to love myself. I am part of a brotherhood that allows me to stay clean thanks to a program and a sponsor. “It helps me a lot and I’m very happy with where I am today,” explains the 42-year-old singer.
Driven by passion
The coming months will therefore allow fans to reconnect with Mélanie Renaud’s musical universe, infused with soul and R&B sounds. Further excerpts are already ready for release to lay the foundation for this sixth career album. Would this be his last chance to return to our stages? Not necessarily.
“I often told myself that it was the last time I tried, but I always ended up making a new album. Even if it works more or less, I’ll still try to keep going. Singing is my passion, it keeps me alive. I do it because I need to sing sincerely and spiritually,” she admits.
