“It’s hell, I can’t accept that, drop Robert Laca. For now, I just want her out of there. All I want is for her to get out of there.”

Charlie Lacroix

The latter is the maternal grandfather of Charlie Lacroix, 18 years old.

The young woman would have dialed 911 twice before dying because she was in a dead end street and being a prisoner.

Since the tragedy, Mr. Laca has come every day from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to observe the workers’ work.

“I have to see what they do. If I stay at home, I don’t know what they do,” he explains.

“At least I can hear the chainsaw, I say to myself: “Well, they’re working, things are progressing”. I saw pieces of wood being thrown off the platform earlier. I look at all this, it’s not rational, but it’s the same, it makes me feel good,” adds the grandfather.

A “comprehensive investigation”

The latter was somewhat reassured when authorities officially confirmed the death of a fire victim on Wednesday.

This gives him hope that one day it will be his granddaughter Charlie’s turn.

“It is not normal that we have experienced such a situation. Things have happened that require a full investigation,” he said.

The search operation will continue in the coming days to find the bodies of the other victims. A body was found Tuesday, but we still don’t officially know his identity. Five people are still missing, but the death toll could be higher.

One thing is certain: Robert Laca will be there every day until Charlie is found and he can begin his grief.
