“I Love My Dad” Wins Narrative Grand Prize

The 2022 SXSW Film Festival announced its winners: James Morosini’s I Love My Dad and Rosa Ruth Boesten’s Master of Light won the top prizes for narrative and documentary, respectively.

“I Love My Dad” tells the story of a man who is tricked by his estranged father (Patton Oswalt) in an attempt to reunite, while “Master of Light” is a portrait of artist George Anthony Morton. Other winners include Something Undone (pilot episode) and All the Crows in the World (short story).

The 2022 SXSW Film Festival is the first in-person iteration of the Austin festival since 2019. The film premiered several major studio films, including Sandra Bullock’s release The Lost City and Nicolas Cage’s The Unbearable Weight of Enormous Talent. as well as records A24 All Everywhere All At Once and Bodies Bodies Bodies.

Sheri Linden of The Hollywood Reporter was on the jury for the feature story competition along with director Siddhant Adlakha and Janelle Riley of Variety.
