A mum has been slammed after revealing she named her baby Imagine – but said the name has an unusual pronunciation.
The woman’s baby name choice was posted by an anonymous forum user on Reddit, where other users criticized the choice.
According to the post, the name should be spelled “Imagine” but read “Em-ah-jen”.
Sharing the unusual moniker, the poster described it as “the worst thing I’ve seen this week,” adding that “the pronunciation is even worse.”

In response to the post, forum users agreed that the name would likely cause problems because it is so uncommon.
One person wrote: “Can’t you just give your child a normal word and tell them it’s pronounced completely different?!???? You can not….????’
To which another replied: “Well since the whole world revolves around them yes they can and you just have to deal with it oh and they don’t let it slip if you pronounce it wrong I feel like folks , the names your kids call like this partly as a ticket to get upset and correct people all the time.
Forum users participated in the post to share their views on the name, with some saying that the kid would struggle because of the nickname
Meanwhile, another noted that the child might suffer from the unusual name.
They wrote: “You have entrusted Imagine with many future problems. From her first day of kindergarten, she must correct her teachers, deputies, administrators, and anyone else who reads her name. (I know what I’m talking about; my own five-letter name has been mangled endlessly.) It doesn’t seem like a big problem, but it’s getting really tiring for Imagine.”
And others said the mother could have taken the more usual spelling of “Imogen”.
One wrote: “Imogen was right there.”
For many, it was the spelling of the nickname that was most confusing about choosing compared to how parents want people to pronounce it
Another replied: “Was that supposed to be Imogen but they didn’t know how to spell it? Oooof.’
For others, it was the spelling of the nickname that was most confusing.
One wrote: “You could have just gone with Emahjen?”
Another added: “Is that a fun way to spell Emma-Jen?”
And one just wrote, ‘Emma Jean?’
Meanwhile, another simply expressed his opinion by adding, “Oh no.”
