On Thursday morning, customers were turned away from Casino de Montreal’s entrance as support staff called for another strike.
“I think it’s disgusting,” said a man we met outside the arcade. Many people queued in their vehicles early in the morning to enter the casino before being sent home by security officials.
“I’m disappointed,” another person told TVA Nouvelles, adding that he had traveled from St-Jean-sur-Richelieu to play.
Casino de Montreal is expected to open its doors at 2:00 p.m. with very limited operations for players.
This day of strike comes days after the mandate given to nearly 1,000 auxiliaries on the eve of the Canadian Grand Prix.
The workers’ union of the Société des Casinos du Québec (SEESCQ), which has been without a collective agreement for a year, is demanding pay rises and deploring the current working conditions.
Negotiations are stagnating, especially over wages. “We return the arrow to the employer. Let him fix the problem as soon as possible and we’ll get back to work like the pros,” said one of the union representatives.
Loto-Québec indicates a global and generous currency offering is on the table.
