Marcelo Serrado announced this week that he is stepping down as artistic director of Cidade das Artes, a complex dedicated to culture in Rio de Janeiro. In an interview with ‘Folha de São Paulo’ published on Sunday, he gave the reasons why he was asking for his dismissal almost a week after a scandal suggested there were phantom employees in public office, even though his name was not involved.
“I left for personal reasons. I’d been trying to walk for a while, it was more like I couldn’t juggle everything. It has nothing to do with what was published. This consulting thing, artistic director, the [Miguel] Falabella has already done it, as has Domingos de Oliveira, remember?” said the actor, currently in Globo’s Cara e Coragem, when asked about the reasons for the sacking.
He said the agreement with City Hall was that he could work little during the weekdays. “My agreement with them from the start was to go once or twice a week. It was quiet, but now I could never go. I thought it could be done, but now with the soap opera, it was getting difficult. I asked to be exonerated.”
Marcelo Serrado was also asked if Globo knew he was employed by the City of Rio and if there was no conflict of interest. “Zero! When I started there, I told them that I was always transparent. I only accepted it because Cesar Maia, when he was mayor, appointed Falabella and with him there was no daily walking,” argued he.,
Finally, the Folha report asked the actor if the fact that he was the brother of Daniela Maia’s friend, the president of RioTur (who runs Cidade das Artes) would have been relevant to his nomination. He said no. “Look, then you go to the other side. One has nothing to do with the other. She called me as manager, Dani has known me for years, if it wasn’t for me it would be someone else [a ocupar o cargo].”
