The above was reflected in the Santo Domingo Declaration adopted this Saturday, as well as in the Summit’s Program of Action and in the III. Four-year action plan of Ibero-American cooperation for the period 2023-2026 confirmed.
In addition, in the 16 special communications, proposals in the areas of economy, social affairs, sustainable energy or the revitalization of the tourism sector are adopted.
And in three key instruments for the region’s future: The Ibero-American Environmental Charter, The Critical Path to Achieving Inclusive and Sustainable Food Security in Ibero-America, and The Ibero-American Charter of Principles and Rights in Digital Environments.
In addition to the issues already mentioned, the Santo Domingo Declaration included, among others, food security, strengthening open, free and non-discriminatory trade, developing inclusive and resilient agri-food supply chains and consolidating family farms.
Regarding the area of digital transformation, it was mentioned along with the letter that Ibero-American countries need to reduce inequalities and close the digital divide, as well as promote affordable access to connectivity and quality to expand access to rights through recent technological advances.
The document, approved by the heads of state, also points to the strategic potential of Ibero-American cooperation to promote relations with other regions and create synergies with other actors in international cooperation.
Likewise, on economic issues, a special communiqué on the international financial architecture was adopted, calling for a structural reform of international financing conditions in order to expand low- and middle-income countries’ access to resources for sustainable development.
The text stressed the need for innovative financial instruments with terms that facilitate sustainable borrowing to mitigate the impacts of and adaptation to climate change.
Finally, the declaration underscored the commitment to mainstreaming gender equality and gender equity into all actions of the Ibero-American Community, as well as mainstreaming a gender perspective into all agreements reached at this Summit.
