At the end of the event, Prensa Latina spoke to the Minister of Higher Education of Cuba, José Ramón Saborido, who evaluated the meeting positively because, among other things, it was a good space for exchanges, since the highest structures of the sector were present with their ministers at the Front and the Segib.
“Undoubtedly, it was an expeditious place to reconcile bilateral interests and discuss the issues affecting the countries of the region in higher education work,” he added.
Regarding the island’s participation, he said: “I think that Cuba has its specificities, it is a nation that has paid special attention to education and after 60 years we can say that it is a privileged, privileged and prioritized sector was. and this is felt very strongly in higher education».
And he added that the prestige that the country has acquired is shown in these meetings, where our country and its achievements are recognized, accessible to all.
Finally, he expressed that the recognition of education as a public good by those present was something important and praised the good relations in the academic field.
Representatives from 19 countries were physically present at the meeting and two (Brazil and Uruguay) did so virtually.
The meeting of higher education ministers is part of the official calendar of the Iberoamerican Conference and part of the preparation process for the XVIII. Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, held in this country under the motto “Together for a fair and just Ibero-America”.
