Traders and the tourist board have noticed a significant increase in visitor numbers in Saguenay Fjord during the bottom fishing season, which ends this weekend.

The huts have benefited from the success of ice fishing and must therefore leave the ice before midnight on Sunday.

“It’s a record year in earnest, from Thursday to Sunday it didn’t stop. Sometimes we had to wait up to two hours for deliveries. It was magical,” explained Paulette Tremblay, manager of Pizza Maximum.

“We drove five hours, we will use that and catch the remaining fish,” confirms a fisherman.

There were people from outside the region, but the blueberries also enjoyed this activity. Same story at the Boivin Cheese Factory, where poutines and cheese were popular.

“We see it immediately, from the start of the season people come to the cheese dairy and also to the canteen. It’s really good for the industry,” said the owner of the Boivin cheese factory.

Cabin renters also took advantage of this season and there were plenty of catches.

“We had a lot of people from outside, people from the United States, the Middle East, the French,” confirmed Pêche Aventures Saguenay owner Mélanie Davis.
