Ice hockey: Niederreiter controls Winnipeg

The Nashville Predators appear to have finally sided with the sellers ahead of the trading deadline. Striker Nino Niederreiter traveled to Winnipeg on Saturday.

In exchange, the Jets gave up a second-round pick in 2024, according to Sportsnet.

Niederreiter, 30, signed a two-year contract with an average annual value of $4 million last July. He will therefore become an unrestricted free agent after the 2023-2024 season.

The Swiss has done well with the “Preds” this season. He goes into his sixth season with 20 or more goals, having recorded 18 goals and 28 points in 56 games.

The former New York Islanders, Minnesota Wild and Carolina Hurricanes have 199 goals and 396 points in 788 career games.

Kinkaid moves to Colorado

Earlier in the day, the Boston Bruins made a small trade, sending goaltender Keith Kinkaid to the Colorado Avalanche for center Shane Bowers.

Kinkaid, who made an unsuccessful stint in the 2019/2020 season primarily in the organization of the Montreal Canadiens, only played one game with the “Oursons”. He spent the remainder of the season with the Providence Bruins of the AHL.

As for himself, Bowers played his first and only meeting in the National Hockey League in 2022-2023. Selected in the first round by the Ottawa Senators in 2017, he was involved in the monster trade that made Matt Duchene a member of the “Sens”.
