Pascal Rheaume leaves the Lions

Ice hockey: Pascal Rhéaume chose this team instead of the Lions

Quebecer Pascal Rheaume’s next goal is known: he will work as an assistant coach in Bridgeport, where the New York Islanders farm club of the American Hockey League (AHL) plays.

The organization confirmed on Friday the hiring of former goalkeeper Manon Rhéaume’s brother. The new addition to the Connecticut team will work alongside Matt Macdonald, also named assistant, and driver Rick Kowalsky.

Pascal Rheaume resigned a few days ago as head coach of the Trois-Rivières Lions, the Montreal Canadiens’ affiliate team in the ECHL. He took Marc-André Bergeron’s place on June 22, but never managed the Trois-Rivières club. Ron Choules will lead the team and also take on the responsibilities of general manager.

“When an AHL team picks up a member of our organization, it’s a sign that we’ve done our job well at recruiting,” Dean MacDonald, president of Deacon Sports and Entertainment, said in a statement at the time of Rheaume’s departure.
