American Idol winner Laine Hardy has been arrested for allegedly planting a listening device in his ex-girlfriend’s bedroom.
The country singer, 21, is said to have run a wire in her dorm room to spy on her at Louisiana State University.
He overheard her phone conversations, including those she had with her mother about their breakup, legal documents say.
The musician’s voice was said to have been heard while the device was being planted, the newspapers claim.
Hardy turned himself in to university police yesterday and said he was working with officers.
He wrote on social media that he had contacted the police after the arrest warrant was released and would help with their investigation.
Hardy was taken to East Baton Rouge Jail by LSU PD and arrested Friday.
The charges against Hardy are not yet known, but an unnamed source told Louisiana news station WAFB-TV that Hardy is accused of spying on an LSU resident.

The entertainer explained the situation he is involved in via social media
The source told WAFB that Hardy left a listening device at the student’s home to keep tabs on their conversations.
His attorney Frank Holthaus confirmed allegations against Hardy, but did not clarify their nature.
He said, “I can confirm that Mr. Hardy received an arrest warrant earlier today and has been and will continue to be fully cooperative with the LSU Police Department on this matter.”
He added, “Due to the public nature of Mr. Hardy’s profession, we request privacy at this time.” LSU PD also confirmed that there was a warrant out for Hardy’s arrest.
Hardy broke the news on social media last night, writing, “Earlier this morning I was issued a warrant for my arrest on allegations made against me and has been fully cooperative with the Louisiana State University Police Department.
“I understand that my career has put me in the public spotlight and I wholeheartedly embrace that as my whole world belongs to my music and my fans.
“However, due to the sensitive nature of this allegation, I humbly request privacy at this time.
“I have the utmost respect for the law and will assist in their investigation if necessary.”

A spokesman for LSU told : “Lane Reed Hardy (non-LSU student) was arrested by LSU police today and charged with violating 15:1303 – Interception and Disclosure of Wire, Electronics or Verbal Communications. His arrest warrant has been filed with the clerk.’
A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he rose to fame in 2019 when he won the 17th season of the TV competition.
He made headlines last fall when he played a benefit concert for Volunteer Louisiana and the Louisiana Museum Foundation in the French Quarter following Hurricane Ida.
The performance was intended to commemorate the release of his first album, Here’s To Everyone.
