From March 24th, the poems of Cádiz writers and traditional Ibero-American music in Spanish will conquer this Andalusian city as part of the Congress that will bring together hundreds of experts and academics in the Spanish language.
The Organization of Ibero-American States Educational, Scientific and Cultural (OEI) will be present at the IX. International Congress of the Spanish Language (CILE) that will take place from March 27th to 30th in the city of Cadiz (Spain).
As part of the parallel cultural program that will take place during the congress, the OEI with its campaign “read on the go‘, an initiative that seeks to encourage new spaces and reading habits among passers-by, while valuing the important contribution that poets from Cadiz have made to the history of letters in the Spanish language.
Thus, with the support of the Cádiz City Hall, congress participants and visitors will be able to read and enjoy postcards and QR codes in different places in the city, such as streets, squares and public transport, the poetic creations of authors born in “The Silver Cup”. , like Mercedes Escolano, Miguel Ángel García Argüez, Nieves Vázquez Rocío, María Alcantarilla, Fernando Quiñones or José Ramón Ripoll.
“Reading in motion”, campaign developed from the program read overcoordinated by the OEI in Argentina, was already present at the last edition of this congress in the Argentine city of Córdoba, where, under the motto “Texts circulate around the city”, reading took to the streets to promote new reading scenarios and valorise the normal ones Citizens bring texts in their language to share with 590 million other people around the world.
A room for choral music in Spanish
Traditional Ibero-American music will also feature prominently on the cultural agenda of the Congress with the presentation of the Ibero-American Choir of Madrid. Led by Maestro Raúl Barrio, the choir is an OEI-supported cultural initiative that brings together voices of all Ibero-American accents to celebrate the region’s choral music heritage.
During the congress, a recital will be held together with the Choir of the University of Cádiz, performing works of popular folklore widespread in the Spanish-speaking world, as well as songs with lyrics by important Spanish-speaking writers from both sides of the Atlantic such as Rafael Alberti, Gabriela Mistral, Antonio Machado, Miguel Hernández, Mario Benedetti and others.
The concert will take place on Saturday March 25 at 8:30 p.m. at the IberoAmerica Housebased in Cádiz, and participation is free until full capacity is reached.
The International Congress of the Spanish Language (CILE) is the main forum for reflection on the Spanish language, takes place every three years and is organized by the Cervantes Institute and the Royal Spanish Academy together with the Association of Academies of the Spanish Language and the Host Country .
