“Why it’s high time to leave the cities,” asks La Libre Belgique.
For the following reason.
“Urbanization occupies only 2% of the earth’s surface and produces 70% of the waste, emits 75% of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, consumes 78% of the energy and emits over 90% of the pollutants emitted to the air for 58% of the world’s population Population” citing the work of Guillaume Faburel, Professor, Researcher at the UMR Triangle, Université Lumière Lyon 2.
For my part, you know my point of view.
Historically, no major city, even Rome in its heyday, has more than a million inhabitants, because beyond that size it was no longer possible to provide the necessary logistical services there in a world of slow and carbon-free energies essence… there was no petrol and ideally horses!
Historically, our organization based on hamlets, villages, cities, towns, sub-prefectures and prefectures has been a real organization in short circuits, resilient and efficient.
It is up to us to return to this more harmonious, gentler, less intense way of life.
It is up to us to increase rurality and reduce inhumane city life in many ways.
We know how to do it by reducing bad pollution and developing good approaches and sustainable technologies without sacrificing comfort.
We can reduce and be sustainable without endorsing misery.
In short, happy sobriety!
