“I’m the best running back in Canada” – Kalenga Muganda

The new Rouge et Or running back from Université Laval Kalenga Muganda is not lacking in confidence.

Since Saturday, the player with the most individual titles in the history of Quebec high school football has discovered the reality of the varsity ranks and is trying to carve out a starting position in the camp of his new formation.

“I’m a born competitor and I don’t shy away from a challenge,” he said on the phone. Of course there are people here who have more experience. This is the case with [Joanik] Masse, who will play his fifth season. But I think I’m the best running back in Canada.”

Nothing less for the “Showman” that is Muganda! The youngster isn’t the only quality returning to Rouge et Or in 2022, however, as Shawn Valentine and Angel Vital also join the party.

“We are happy [de ces recrutements], dropped head coach Glen Constantin. These guys have really been stars wherever they’ve been before.”

Lots of exercise

So it’s a happy conundrum forming in front of Constantin and offensive coordinator Justin Ethier. They must find some form of balance in using their new offensive weapons and rely on the experience of crowds.

“However, you can’t play against Valentine or Muganda, for example, only if you want to run with the ball,” pointed out the Rouge et Or pilot. They must become more complete players. You must also be good at password protection.

“We have no intention of leaving them on the bench,” he added of his rookies. We are also very satisfied with Joanik Masse, our running back veteran. All of our porters bring something different.”

Although he considers himself “the best”, Muganda is aware that he is entitled to nothing and that his destiny is only half of his destiny.

“I do everything I can to turn the odds in my favor but the final decision rests with the coaches. As long as I know I gave it my all, I don’t regret it,” he said in a more serious tone.

Muganda also ended the interview with a word of wisdom that demonstrates a certain maturity, even if it is hidden behind a confidence bordering on arrogance.

“You burn the stairs or the stairs burn you,” he said.
