The true story that inspired The Watcher

The news story that inspired the TV series The Watcher dates back to June 2014 New Jersey. In their mailbox, a couple found strange handwritten letters in which one person claimed to be watching them, gave details of what they were doing, what they said and who they were, idolized the house for its beauty, and claimed they weren’t right owners for this house.

The actual story then became a television series created by Ryan Murphy and Ian BrennanReleased on Netflix from October 13, 2022.

The Story of the Woman of Borgo Treviso

The newspaper “Il Messaggero” also reports the words of the woman who found the mysterious letter in her mailbox in Borgo Treviso: “In front of the door there is a chest of drawers that I use very little, I even thought of throwing it away . I opened it to get something and in the top drawer I found this letter. I opened it and was scared. I immediately called my son who doesn’t live with me and he told me it was written really badly and that it was inspired by a TV series. He told me to calm down which is probably a joke but I’m worried. I went to the Carabinieri and lodged a complaint.”

The letter found by the woman ends with these words: “She will soon discover what lies behind the walls of her house. I like the fact that she almost never closes the door. He will find a surprise“. To which the woman said: “It is true. I very rarely lock the front door. Now I always will.”

Then she added: “I’ve already been influenced by this letter. Isn’t someone listening to us while we talk? I quickly find out if there is anything, my house is small and I live alone, I know where I put my things. Whoever wrote knows things about me, it’s obvious. I rule out that they could be my neighbors: there are three of us on the landing, all good people. I know almost nobody about the condo. I don’t know why anyone would do this to me, even if it was a joke. I’m worried, let’s hope for the best.”
