Subway lines were flooded and closed, roads were blocked by the floodwaters and there were reports of trees falling in some places.
Heavy rain puts New York in distress this Friday (29)
It was the ninth wettest day the American city has experienced since records began in 1869.
“This is a dangerous and lifethreatening storm,” said New York Governor Kathy Hochul.
Both Hochul and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy declared states of emergency in their territories to facilitate access to mitigation resources.
“Residents should avoid the streets, remain vigilant and follow safety protocols,” Murphy said Friday.
In the city, subway lines were flooded and closed, roads were blocked and there were reports of trees falling in some places.
