Firefighters from the Quebec Fire Protection Service (SPCIQ) have been called into action over the past few hours to a fire at a family home at 3017 Rue de Valmont.

Multiple emergency calls to 911 were received at approximately 4:53 this morning regarding a single story house that had gone up in flames. According to the first witnesses, the fire also caught the neighboring house at 3021 rue de Valmont.

A second alarm was raised to attract additional firefighting personnel. The evacuation of the two homes was completed before firefighters arrived.

“Shortly after the fire brigade arrived, most of the flames were quickly extinguished and the spread contained. Partners from Énergir and Hydro-Québec came on site,” said David Poitras, spokesman for SPCIQ.

A total of seven people were evacuated from the two dormitories. They were cared for by the Red Cross. For residents of 3017, reintegration is not possible due to the extensive damage to the apartment. No injuries were reported during this event.
The fire was declared under control at 6:21 am. At the height of the fire, nearly 40 firefighters were on site. The fire brigade went to the scene to investigate the causes and circumstances of the fire.
