Métro Média announces the immediate cessation of its activities, including its newspapers.
The news was confirmed by the company’s CEO, Andrew Mulé, at the end of the afternoon.
“I announce the immediate cessation of Metro activities, all of our newspapers and our community websites,” read an internal letter.
Despite all efforts and investments in the future of the media group, Andrew Mulé says he was “forced” to make this difficult decision.
“The media has had a rough time in recent years, but Metro was dealt a particularly devastating blow at the time [la mairesse de Montréal] “We have announced the end of our Publi-Sac distribution method,” he emphasized.
“The fact remains that without external financial support we could not suddenly suffer a devastating loss of revenue and pursue an ambitious and expensive digital roadmap.”
The latter adds that Facebook’s message blocking “certainly hasn’t helped our cause over the last month”.
