Former Australian cyclist and world champion Rohan Dennis has been arrested and charged with fatally hitting his wife with his vehicle.
According to local media, the 33-year-old, who recently ended his professional career, is said to have hit 32-year-old Melissa Hoskins with his pickup truck just meters from her home in Medindie, Australia, around 8 p.m. on Saturday, according to 10 News First.
The also professional cyclist died from her injuries.
The former cyclist is charged with dangerous driving causing death and endangering the lives of others. Released on bail, he is due back in court in March 2024, various media reported.
The couple Rohan Dennis and Melissa Hoskin had been married since 2018 and had two children.
Remember that Rohan Dennis was a four-time Australian time trial champion and twice crowned world champion. In the summer of 2021, he won bronze in the distance competition at the Tokyo Olympics. He retired from cycling at the end of the 2022/23 season.
For her part, Melissa Hoskins won the World Team Pursuit Championship in 2015 before ending her career in 2017 after her engagement.
