As of January 1, 2023, the WhatsApp mobile application will no longer be compatible with smartphones running certain older versions of iOS and Android.
The app is only compatible with iPhones running iOS 12 (or later) and Android Jelly Bean devices (4.1 and later). Therefore, iPhone 5 or earlier released models are no longer compatible with the WhatsApp application.
In addition, smartphones with Android require a version corresponding to at least Android 4.1 in order to continue using WhatsApp.
“To keep up with the latest technological advances, we regularly discontinue support for older operating systems in order to devote our resources to supporting the latest systems,” explains WhatsApp.
