The political tensions that have been evident in the House of Representatives over the last two days spilled onto the streets this Thursday. Four Socialist MPs were insulted early this morning as they ate breakfast in a cafeteria near the upper house before attending the second day of Pedro Sánchez’s inauguration. According to police sources, the parliamentarians were insulted and had eggs and a cup thrown at them by a group of seven to eight people they identified as members of the PSOE. “Hang your head while I’m here, you damn dog,” one of the attackers snapped at them, while another threatened them: “Disgusting, treasonous, they had to kill you.” Those affected are the Basque socialists Daniel Senderos Oraá and María Luisa García Gurrutxaga, the Valencian Vicent Sarrià Morell and the Aragonese Herminio Rufino Sancho.

At least two of them, Senderos and García Gurrutxaga, as well as one of the police officers who came to protect them, were hit by eggs and coffee stains thrown at them. Seven suspected attackers were identified by police, but they were not arrested. The PSOE will file the follow-up complaint, the Socialist Party said. All identified people are men between the ages of 31 and 31.
The events occurred shortly after the four parliamentarians left the hostel near the hall where they had been staying to have breakfast at the cafeteria-restaurant El Barografía at number 10 Calle del Príncipe. Once inside, the officers were harassed by a group of the bar’s customers, who simultaneously recorded them on their cell phones. Faced with the fear caused by the insults and threats, one of the victims called the National Police officers who had accompanied her in those days as part of the security plan to avoid incidents during the investiture.
The PP refers to PSOE MPs
When police entered the premises, they observed a group of seven to eight people insulting the parliamentarians for identifying them as members of the Socialist Party. According to police sources, none of them carried flags or symbols that identified them with any ideology. However, given the aggressive and violent attitude of everyone involved and the fear that a physical attack could occur, the bodyguards decided to expel the officers from the premises. However, once outside, the group continued to insult deputies and throw eggs and coffee at them. The insults were also directed at the agents, who called them “state dogs”. A police officer had to stop one of the attackers as he apparently wanted to hit the parliamentarians. The agents then decided to quickly move the lawmakers into the security checkpoint that currently surrounds Congress.
