In the edited version that aired Monday night, her sleeveless white dress became a halter top and skirt that exposed her waist, while her bust size was visibly increased.

Adobe disagrees with the channel version

“I went through a lot yesterday. But seeing my body and outfit photoshopped by a media outlet was not on the agenda,” denounced Georgie Purcell on X. “I can't imagine this happening to a male MP.” What's going on? ” she continued.

Hugh Nailon, director of 9News Melbourne, said the broadcaster's picture department found a photo of the MP online to be used to illustrate an article about duck hunting.

“As usual, the image was resized to suit our specifications,” Hugh Nailon continued. “During this process, Photoshop automation created an image that did not match the original shot,” he added, referring to Adobe's US-based photo editing software.

“This did not meet the high editorial standards we apply and we apologize unreservedly to Georgie Purcell,” the channel’s head concluded, citing a “graphical error”.

However, the information company Adobe contradicted this statement. “Any changes to this image would have required human intervention and approval,” an Adobe spokesperson said in a statement to Australian media.

“Let’s think about the message this sends.”

Georgie Purcell added that she didn't think the same mistake would have happened with a photo of Victorian Prime Minister Jacinta Allan.

“I imagine the software would have noticed if it had spit out a photo of Jacinta Allan in a top that showed her belly button, but that's not the case for me,” she complained to the broadcaster ABC.

The MP said the incident had affected her and “could affect other women even more and that should never happen again”. “These are things that would never happen to our male colleagues,” she emphasized.

The premier of the state of Victoria also regretted the incident. “This is no way to represent a woman, and certainly not a woman who holds public office, represents a population and participates in public discourse every day,” Jacinta Allan told the press. “Let’s think about what message this sends, particularly to young women.”
