“We have common interests and China will prioritize our friendly relations. This is a relationship that will benefit both, and China’s opening up will bring opportunities for all,” the Chinese leader said at the start of the meeting with Lula.
Topics on the agenda of the heads of state meeting included climate change, economic relations between the two nations, the war in Ukraine and creating a multipolar world free from sanctions and unilateral decisions.
“We have an exceptional relationship with China, a relationship that grows sharper and stronger every day,” the Brazilian President said during the meeting.
Furthermore, he added that “nobody will ban Brazil from improving its relations with the Asian giant”.
‘Lula’ and Xi also agreed that Negotiations and dialogue are “the only viable way” to achieve peace in the war in Ukraine.
They also joined the call for other countries to play a constructive role in promoting a political deal between Ukraine and Russia.
In a joint statement after their meeting, both presidents reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to protecting the environment and called on most developed nations to respect environmental agreements contained in current international treaties.

On his first day of visit, Lula attended the inauguration ceremony of the new president of the financial agency formed by Brazil, Russia, China, India and South Africa, collectively known as BRICS.
Former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff was elected Chair of the New Development Bank (NBD). An institution created by the BRICS initiative as an alternative to Western international financial mechanisms.
During the ceremony, the President praised the mechanism’s potential and, referring to the FIS, stated: “It frees emerging markets from submission to traditional financial institutions that want to dominate us.” Use of national currencies.
