Every good sports coach dreams of reaping champions. In these times, it takes talent, perseverance and a great deal of science to achieve this goal.

For this reason, there is the Center for Studies, Research and Services for Physical Activity and Sports (CEISAD) at the Universidad Deportiva del Sur in the Venezuelan state of Cojedes. In their labs, training equipment is combined with computers, algorithms and sensors to identify champions.

Cuban Professor Rolando Baza from the Higher Educational Mission is one of the founders of CEISAD. As he explains, these are premises and devices that have been recovered, but that work excellently and, as a first step, allow the anthropometric, biomechanical and physiological measurement of the athletes of the territory.

Also a consultant in Technological Management of Sport at UDESUR, he works with other teachers to measure physical parameters and the skills they evoke in each individual. With this information, they not only appeal to potential top athletes, but also create more efficient training plans.

Venezuelan professor Luis Díaz, another promoter of the UDESUR anthropometric laboratory, points out that they have taken measurements on students of different disciplines, as well as on athletes from different local clubs.

“The evaluation of this data shows the strengths and weaknesses of each athlete and thus makes it easier to correct training and competition plans.”

With only months of its creation and already with concrete results in the sports performances of schools and clubs of Cojedes, the Center for Studies, Research and Services for Physical Activity and Sport has plans for growth.

“We would like other professors from these or other universities to join us to expand our scope but also to do more scientific research, publish it in journals and specialized websites, thus contributing to the development of sport and applied sciences in Venezuela .”

You have to add stamina and science to sports talents to turn them into medals. Thanks to CEISAD, Cojedes, and soon all of Venezuela, will be even more fertile territory to harvest champions.
