In-game performance will improve on Windows 11…but you’ll have to be patient

Windows 11 users who are experiencing performance issues in their video games since the release of the 22H2 update can access a preview version of a permanent fix.

Microsoft has released a preview of a fix that addresses performance issues some users are experiencing. We still have to wait for a real update that will be rolled out to all users, but those in a hurry can already install it on their computer.

A long term problem

At the end of September, Microsoft rolled out its major annual Windows 11 update entitled 22H2. Shortly thereafter, Playerrights and gamers using Nvidia graphics cards have reported performance issues in their video games. If the brand had responded quickly enough by releasing new drivers, the problems persisted and Microsoft seemed unwilling to comment. The American giant finally spoke in early November, almost two months after the update was released.

In a note, Microsoft acknowledges that the performance issues are due to the Windows 22H2 update. “Some games and apps suffer from slower than expected performance or stutter on Windows 11 version 22H2. Affected games and apps inadvertently enable debugging features for graphics cards that are not intended for consumer use. »

Temporary solutions

While waiting for a final patch, Microsoft had initially made the decision to block the Windows update on PCs that might suffer from this inconvenience. The company has continued its corrective work and is now providing a patch to be installed manually. It’s still not a massive rollout of a definitive fix, but it’s already enough to fix the issues. Windows therefore encourages people who already have the 22H2 version of Windows installed and are experiencing these performance issues to install the KB5020044 preview release available through Windows Update.

However, it will still be necessary to wait a bit before making a global fix to the problem. The giant encounters some difficulties in terms of video game performance, since it wants to turn Windows 11 into a real platform optimized for gaming. We learned last month that certain virtualization options in Windows 11 can also cause performance issues in video games. Microsoft had published guidelines to be followed to avoid them, but there were some risks for beginners.
