In Havana, Miranda emphasized that the Retorna Cualifica Emprego program was “the impulse… Chronicles of Emigration”.

Cuba is the third largest country after Argentina and Brazil with currently almost 47,000 inhabitants of Galicia.

As explained by Antonio Rodríguez Miranda, this informative action aims to bring all these people closer to the new strategy, which includes 100 actions to encourage returns and a budget of more than 450 million euros.

“Of all, those related to the workplace stand out, because a job facilitates the success of the return and the opportunities to establish oneself permanently in our society,” added the Secretary-General, which is why the allocation of 175 million euros was made the Development of 37 measures related to the professional and work-related competences of the beneficiaries.

In this field of work, the pioneering program Retorna Cualifica Emprego stands out, an initiative aimed at matching vacancies in companies with the labor needs of returnees. As part of this initiative, the Xunta has planned for more than 400 trained Galicians from abroad to return to Galicia this year on permanent contracts and receive guidance and protection on their new journey. The Galician government will invest almost 4 million euros in this initiative, taking a new step in matching the needs of the labor market to the workers needed.

This innovative measure will allow the beneficiaries to return to their country of origin with a permanent contract and financial support to cover the initial costs both for the outward journey to Galicia and for other settlements in the Community.

The “Galicia Returns 2023-26” strategy doubles both the measures and the budget compared to the previous strategy, launched in 2018 which, according to Miranda, “marked a turning point in the return policy implemented so far in Spain”. With the aim of continuing to make Galicia the best place to live for Galicians living abroad, the document focuses on four main areas: counseling and mentoring, social, educational and labor areas.
