Experts identify several risk factors, including prediabetes, overweight or obesity, family history, high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, inactivity, among others.
According to the first National Survey of Chronic Diseases in 2011, the prevalence of diabetes in adults was 9.7 percent this year, up 49 percent from 1995, while this year 2022 is estimated to reach 13 percent .
World Diabetes Day is observed every November 14 to raise awareness of the importance of healthy living to prevent this disease.
This year, the theme is “Educate to protect the future” to raise awareness of the impact of this disease, which is estimated to affect 700 million people by 2045.
The date was set in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization.
