The St. Patrick’s Day Parade returned to Montreal on Sunday for its 198th edition.

After a hiatus during the pandemic and an abridged version last year, this year’s event went ahead without restrictions.

77 floats marched through downtown Montreal in front of thousands of people. Some of them had come to reserve their seats up to 90 minutes before the parade started.

Despite the cool weather, citizens were there and Sainte-Catherine Street was crowded.

“A few years ago it was minus 20, so that’s better. It’s not ideal, but we will do it,” Leah Tracey, spokeswoman for the United Irish Societies of Montreal, told TVA Nouvelles.

“We are all delighted to be here, delighted to be back from this parade. It’s so important to Irish society in Montreal,” she added.
