In this powerful video made available to Le Journal, at around 6:40 a.m., we see a duo of police officers knocking on the door of an apartment building on rue Saint-Zotique, near 25th Avenue. Shots were reportedly fired in the direction of police by a 48-year-old man armed with an Uzi submachine gun. Video shows the first officer rushing down the small landing to take cover while the second jumps over the balcony and lands in the snow. Luckily they weren’t hurt.

They then fled behind vehicles parked on the side of the road and asked for backup.

“We really feel the panic when we see the video,” comments Jacques Foulem, whose cameras captured the scene. It’s still amazing to see. It’s a super quiet area here, where everyone knows everyone. It’s sad, it’s not just in the north of the island anymore, it’s done here too.

His mother there

The suspect’s 75-year-old mother was also at the home. It was she who would have dialed 911 when she saw her son’s unstable condition. She suffered no injuries.
