Roland Garros Felix needs a break

In tennis you have to win to get rich – Le Journal de Montréal

The salaries of the athletes are on everyone’s lips. Cole Caufield recently signed an eight-year deal with the Montreal Canadiens claiming: “It’s really a lot of money, it doesn’t make any sense.” Footballer Lionel Messi has just signed a lucrative $53 million-a-year deal with Inter Miami… What’s Félix thinking Auger-Aliassime from the dizzying salaries in sports?

“It’s sure to say ‘Wow!’ from the outside. when you see the big deals and stuff, but people don’t go stumped. The businessmen who offer such contracts know that there will be consumers who will make the contract profitable. They expect a return. It’s always like that in business and it’s not so different in sport,” explains the Quebec tennis player.

In tennis, on the other hand, there is no salary contract. The player has to win tournaments to earn money. “In tennis you have to fight for every penny, but if you make it and you are successful, you also manage to build an image, a brand, and then partners come to help you.” (Sponsors such as Babolat and Adidas in the case of Felix.)

“But just when we’re earning these salaries, it’s important to give something back for different causes.”
