In the absence of suitable help, a paraplegic woman asks for medical euthanasia

After being unable to qualify for disability assistance, a paraplegic single mother filed for medical assisted suicide (MAID), a situation she documented in a TikTok video that went viral.

“There are only 12 days left until I apply for medical assistance while dying here in Ontario [ne soit complétée]. I’m a single mom raising two children with disabilities,” Rose Finlay said in her video.

The Ontarian, who has been paraplegic since adolescence, explained that an application for access to disability services in the province takes six to eight months to process, while an application for MAID takes just 91 days to process.

Since she suffers from a permanent disability and her quality of life is declining, she can rely on MAID. “But my quality of life goes down depending on how much support I get,” she said.

With just eight days to go until her MAID file is complete, she is fighting for her life every day due to a lack of adequate support, Rose Finlay explained in an interview with Global News.

Although her ultimate goal is to get the help she needs to improve her quality of life, the woman feels it is better to take MAID as an option if her situation worsens.
